Uni and Mum's Birthday

Wednesday
Did an observation of a teaching session in the Nicholson Museum as I haven's taught in a while. I wasn't even the one teaching and I felt drained and exhausted at the end of it. The new Astronomy exhibit is really interesting.

Friday
Had class where we listened to a couple of our cohorts on their thesis topics. One was about archaeoacoustics, which is really interesting, especially when you find out about the case studies.

Lunched, found a computer, then picked up something for my sister. Met up with my supervisor and a couple of other people from the EMU to get an introduction to the research lab I'll be using (finally) to process my samples for my project. Apparently the other half of the lab will be used by materials science people with like 900 degree celcius salt baths and stuff. I'm only using non-toxic liquids and making microscope slides...

Wandered over to pick up a cup of tea from the TeaSoc gathering. They weren't being particularly interesting so I went down to kendo training. Had a bit of a slow and short session, as they were taking it easy before the competition on Saturday.

Only thing of note was that we did kiri kaeshi, which takes a while to get. I still get the sequence wrong sometimes and I need to work on my blocking.

Got back home for a late dinner. It was my mum's birthday (it sometimes falls on Mothers' Day), so we had Indian for dinner (which she likes). I really like Indian cuisine too. Mum made a créme caramel, which she felt like, instead of a cake, which we had for dessert with tea. Had the whole opening of presents thing and singing of birthday songs (three in total).
