Prague: Charles Bridge and Castle

Bit of a wet day today. And some of the people at the hostel were really noisy last night until about 2am, so we only had a short day out.

We've been walking everywhere around Prague. It's not huge and we're not comfortable negotiating the public transport system which is nowhere near as neat as that in Berlin.

Today was no exception, so we wandered through the streets until we reached the Town Hall Square again, where we picked up a trdelnik, dough roasted over an open flame with a coating of sugar. It is supposed to represent roasted snakes and is quite tasty, if a little sweet. A bit unusual as it is not baked so the inside is soft.

We got to Charles Bridge after that, almost half of which was undergoing reconstruction. Had some lunch at a cafe then to stay out of the cold rain, before searching for the castle. Misread the map and ended up in a dead end, but soon found our way again. We only wandered through the outside courtyards of the castle and looked at the architecture - some of which was really cool - some of the time in umbrella-worthy rain.

We were tired after that, although it was only mid-afternoon, so we walked an hour to get back...we've been doing lots of walking. Well, it saves on money I guess.

Should be dinner time soon.

I think they also sold those same snake-representing dough things in Budapest when I was there, though they were all coiled up and highly visibly sugar coated. I didn't buy one because I didn't want to have all that stickiness on my hands since I was street cruising but plenty of people did buy and eat them during that festive day (their national day of independence holiday that day)
