Romantic Symphonies

June 2010

It was the first day I went out again after a particularly debilitating case of food poisoning or some sort of stomach virus. I was still feeling weak, I'd lost something like 3-4 kg and had not been able to eat anything without feeling ill.

We met up with a bunch of friends for Italian in The Rocks, then proceeded to the purpose of the outing, the performance "Romantic Symphonies" by the Australian Chamber Orchestra (artistic director: Richard Tognetti) at the Sydney Opera House.

Greenwood - Popcorn Superhet Receiver
Schubert - Symphony No. 8 "Unfinished"
Brahms - Symphony No. 1

The first piece was a modern piece, which I didn't quite understand. Being that it was the first time I had attended an orchestral musical performance, and because I had been ill, I unfortunately dozed off during the Brahms. Although normally I find Symphony No. 1 very heavy and dense.

Afterwards, we took afternoon tea at the Guylian cafe on the way back to the train station.
