It's the time of year when the thank you events fill up the calender, just before the Christmas parties, I suppose. The way things turned out I ended up going to the USU's Clubs and Societies Awards Night, although I hadn't originally intended to.
It was Bollywood themed. I have never seen a Bollywood movie. After an evening raiding our wardrobes, my sister and I were suitably garbed in clothes that gave a Bollywood feel without actually being either saris or particularly Indian. Which in the end, was both more and less effort than other people who attended went to.
The food was Indian, the music a mix of Indian and popular DJ stuff at the moment, I would say, and the entertainment (in the form of a fashion show, Med Revue number and a dance) all Bollywood-styled. The nice thing was all the colours I suppose. When the Union throw a party, they really are quite generous. As usual, I gave away my free drinks vouchers as I don't drink that much, even non-alcoholic drinks.
We met lots of people we knew, mainly old school friends or volunteering friends who are active in the C&S program. It was really nice to sort of catch up with people.
Our society entered two award categories and was short-listed for the Best Small Club (<100 members) Award, which will be announced at the University's Annual Dinner.
It's nice to get dressed up every now and then, even if I was reluctant about the whole thing at first. There's a photo of my sister and me on the USU website's photo gallery, when we went up to accept the certificate. Do you think we look somewhat Bollywood?
