Archaeology at the Australian Museum

A pretty busy weekend for me. This week was National Archaeology Week, so there were lots of activities on around the country. I went to the Australian Museum today as each year they have a joint event with the Nicholson Museum. Basically we were in a room full of kids and parents all day with the hands-on trays. This is not really very different from similar Sundays at the Nicholson, just a different location.

When it came to about lunch-time we took turns and I went outside as I felt weird about eating the lunch I'd brought inside the museum. I ended up taking a short walk down the road where they were having an Italian Festival. So many people and lots of food stalls. It was too crowded so I just headed back.

Unfortunately, I didn't end up with any time to look at the other exhibitions in the museum. It's been years since I was last there. Although I found out that there is free general admission on the 5th of July. I might go to take a look, despite the expected crowds. I also wanted to check out the special Mammoth exhibition (you need to pay a bit extra to see it), as it really is pretty extraordinary. Anybody else interested?
