Unibodhi O-BBQ: A Joint Event

For the usual welcome outing we have for our society's members, we decided to go to Centennial Park this year, as last year's vegetarian barbecue was such as success.

This year, it was a joint event with other universities' Buddhist societies. We met at Town Hall and took a bus from near Hyde Park. Unfortunately, I got the direction wrong and we ended up going along Anzac Parade instead of Oxford Street. This anomalous navigational error led to a long trek across half of Centennial Park (which was terribly large) before we managed to meet up with our colleague at the picnic spot.

After negotiations with a nearby engagement party, we took possession of one of the barbecues and proceeded to do some cooking, while some of our party went in search of some forgotten salad. More people arrived after we had eaten and had started with our first get-to-know-you game.

We then had a fun game of pass the parcel, with various games and Buddhist "lessons" hidden within, a parcel that my sisters and I wrapped and developed the previous evening (it ended up being unwrapped and rewrapped a few times before we were satisfied with it).

We ended the day with a photo shoot session a la album cover style in the shade of a fig tree and headed off in search of a bus to ride back to town.

Being the eve of the Mardi Gras, the bus passed crowds of colourfully dressed participants milling about the city streets.

Overall, an enjoyable and successful day, with sunny weather and good company, albeit a little disorganised.
