So what did I write last, like?
Well, I'm pretty thoroughly ill, although I was getting better for a bit. We were very well fed at Angers, with lunches and dinners comprising of starters, mains and always dessert. I think that I'll have to compile a "What We Ate" list from the various countries we've been to, as it could be very interesting. Highlights have included: the galette des Rois, French cheeses, homemade apƩritifs, mussels, kouign amann, and crepes (although the realy savoury crepes are called galettes and made from buckwheat).
Had a nice walk around town and have visited many bookshops. Was driven along the Loire and saw a few dolmens (or menhirs) in the valley, where the snow had fallen quite thickly and lingered a bit longer than in town. Also went to Saumur (where the famous equestrian school is) and had a wander. There, a lot of the snow had turned to ice - as in Angers - which makes walking the streets an adventure with the prospect of slipping very real.
In fact when I was walking home yesterday, I was concentrating so hard on making sure of footing that I walked into a street sign and hit my head pretty hard. This followed a day of visiting the town, a chocolatier and a potter's workshop. I was pretty sick last night and I was trying to remember if I was remembering the symptoms for concussion correctly or not. Well, I probably do have a mild case, which was not helped by the small amount of cider I had with the crepes, I imagine. Actually I can't tell if it was hitting my head or my current illness. Likely a combination of both. I had trouble sleeping and then today, I slept for the entire plane journey from Paris to Barcelona. Apparently, I was asleep before we had even left the tarmac.
Well, I just read that it's okay to sleep with concussion. Which is just as well I suppose. I wonder it it's common for sleepiness to turn on and off like it does with me. It's past midnight and I'm not sleepy yet. We're staying in a really nice three bedroom apartment, which is probably a bit excessive for four people, just had some good homecooked food - a late dinner, like the locals have. Warmer here than in France, by about 10-20 degrees I think. Quite considerable. I'll see how things go. Hopefully, I'll recover from all my ailments soon.
