Lunch and Lights

So after I went in on Friday to hand in my essay, I went down towards HK Ward to see if anyone had turned up, despite not training. A couple of others were around doing bokuto waza. Did a few, but my mind was somehow detached. Anyhow, it was getting pretty cool as it was getting dark so after a while loitering on the oval, we headed our separate ways.

Saturday
Took the train out to Wollstonecraft to where my friend lives, as a few of us were having a get-together/catch-up over lunch. She lives with her boyfriend in a pretty neat apartment, north-facing, so quite warm. After nibblies, she'd cooked up some chicken wings and did a potato salad. As usual, she had some wine open. Afterwards we had date-loaf and tea. The food was good, the company comfortable and the conversation interesting. We've known each other for years, so we're all very easy in each other's company.

My sister called while I was there to tell me that my family were all going out to Circular Quay to see the light show, that finishes today. I can't say that it was really in my range of interest, but I went and met up with them. There were hordes of people, especially young families with children. After some confusion and trying to make sure we met up with my Dad, who'd gone to park and arrived later, we walked all around the Rocks area, looking at the installations.

We'd wanted to see the fire show and on the water, but with the crowds there, it was impossible to see anything, but the top of the ship's mast...one situation where height would be an advantage. Overall, I found the whole experience lacking. I can appreciate the skill and innovation it takes to install the lights to maximise the effect, but when all's said and done, I don't like crowds, they are just coloured lights and not knowing where to go can really drag an experience down. Or maybe I was just grumpy cos I had a headache from lack of food.
