At the risk of getting lost, I took a really early bus to the University of Queensland. It was a good thing too as trying to find the right building on campus took longer than I expected. The persistent rain did not help. Not being a person who gets lost easily, I looked at the map carefully, then set off. Ended up being one of the first people to show up.
We had a series of seminars about using pollen to address archaeological questions today. The first section was about using pollen records in conjunction with geological/geomorphological data to reconstruction past landscapes and environments, an area of study that has been around for a while. I had read some of the presenter's work for an essay last year, so that helped a lot.
We were also shown the general protocol/methodology of processing sediments for pollen analysis, before the final session. Overall, it was really interesting. Right up my alley. Looking forward to the next three days.
I also had a few good discussions with a colleague who is also one of my supervisors' students. She just returned from New Guinea with my supervisor a few days ago. One of the good things about talking about your project to people in your field, new ideas emerge. Now to implement them...
As a side note, the gingery fruit biscuits at morning and afternoon tea were really good.
