Northward Bound

Tuesday
It was strongly suggested that I attend a 4-day ANGA Workshop (the acronym eludes me) in the University of Queensland next month, which was brought to my attention, so I'm in the process of researching and organising a trip up there. As well as reapplying for funding for the travel expenses at least. Unfortunately, I'll have to fork out money for accommodation from my own pocket, so it's lucky I still have a bit floating around.

I headed in to uni today as one of my supervisors is leaving for field work this week and wanted to see me. After I sorted that out, I headed down to work on the microscope, but someone else was using it, even though I'd booked it. Could have kicked them off I suppose, but I had a bunch of other things I had to do, so I did that instead. Anyway, I need to make up more slides to peruse, but my card access to the processing lab isn't active yet. Ruddy nuisance. Why does everything always take so long? At this rate, I might want to see if I can get after-hours access to the labs sooner than I thought I might need to.

Wednesday
Another northward journey today, as I headed up to Dee Why to meet up with an archaeologist who did a project several years back and had material that I wanted to look at.

Having never actually travelled there on my own device, I was a bit wary about missing the bus stop, but thankfully managed without mishap. And as a note, waiting at the bus stop near Wynyard station is really chilly; I used the bus stop advertising side to shield myself from the wind.

I had a good session with her at her place, looking at the material and getting a copy of it for reference in my own work. She also gave me some more suggestions for reading, which means that my 'in-tray' has just about exponentially increased. Just in time for my presentation next week...sigh.

Had a light lunch before heading back into town. I went in to uni to do a it of work on the computer and to return a library book that someone had recalled. The number of photocopiers in the libraries is shocking. How can there only be two in the entire of Scitech? Anyhow, I probably should have had more lunch, cos I was so hungry my head hurt, so I had to get something before heading home.

I've just been tidying up my work area in my room, so of course, the table is covered with bits and bobs. Better finish that job before I go to bed.
