A Very Long, But Enjoyable Day

The day began wetly, with the usual train ride to uni. This was followed by class, half of which was spent listening to other people's thesis proposals, the other half spent being told about library resources, of which I was already aware.

Although the sun emerged, the air was quite cool. After a light lunch, I went to do some microscope work where it was colder, before heading off for training at the Nicholson Museum. Reaffirming the stories of the artefacts we use for hands-on teaching at the museum was interesting, but it ran a bit overtime and I got to kendo training a bit late. This seems to be becoming a pattern on Fridays, which I have to admit is not the best of developments.

For me, training was quite frustrating. My concentration was shot, as I've been exhausted and slightly sleep deprived over the past few days, so I found it really hard to focus everything into my cuts.

As it was a friend's birthday, we all went out to dinner at Satsuma, the Japanese Restaurant above the Mandarin Club. Foodwise it was pretty good, and they had a fairly extensive beverage menu. I actually ended up ordering an entree and some sushi, which kept costs down on my end. Free refills on green tea helped too (yay for free refills!). Spent a good few hours eating, conversing and waiting for food. Overall, I think most people enjoyed it and the birthday girl certainly seemed to have a good time. Less alcohol was generally consumed than I think some people would have preferred, but alcohol and enjoyment do not necessarily go hand in hand (if they actually ever had a relationship, it would have been more likely to have been a summer fling).

We ended the evening at French Riviera, where the group participated in a Maxi ice cream eating spree. To those not in the know, the Maxi is a big pile of ice cream in a bowl for 6-8 people. They ended up having to get other members from our group to aid in consumption. Everyone really seems to like their ice cream...

So I got back quite late, yet strangely, everyone in the house was still up. Well, it was a Friday night.
