Madrid to Bath via Bristol: Leaving The Continent

Strange as it is to be back in an English-speaking country and culture, it is also a great relief. No more puzzling over menus in foreign languages and attempting to understand what people are trying to say/sell to you.

We checked out of our hostel but stuck around to have some breakfast, some of which I requisitioned from our former dormmate, who also checked out this morning. Best not to waste food. I said goodbye and take care to S, who is back in Paris for another month of travelling, partially as she wanted to go to a film festival in Angers. We'll all miss each other after travelling together for so long.

I went off to the Museo Arqueologico Nacional, which ended up being free entry as they are renovating the building, so not much is on display. That was a shame, but I got to see some pretty cool stuff, like a Roman hydraulic pump, a medieval sedan chair and some nice Egyptian coffins.

Met up with A and L for a pretty big lunch before we negotiated the metro to get to the airport for our flight. The flight wasn't too bad, but there was quite a bit of turbulence, especialy near the end.

Getting from Bristol to Bath was not too difficult and we made pretty good time with barely any waiting time to catch the bus, then the train. Finding the accommodation was a bit more difficult, but we managed it after asking for directions. Had Thai for dinner; pretty good and reminiscent of our first meal out in Glasgow two months ago.

Bath is pretty deserted, but that just might be that it is Sunday night. And especially just coming from Madrid, where the night life is when the streets are busier than they are during the day.
